Wye River
Just 15 minutes drive from Lorne Wye River is a special place where the Otway Forest meets the sea. Your very
own wilderness retreat awaits in Wye River just two and a half hours drive along the Great Ocean Road from
Melbourne. The town was originally called "The Wye" after the English River.
Tourists and fishermen began to visit the area in 1895. The first jetty was built in 1900 when milling became
the major local industry with the opening of the Bluegum Timber and Transport Company's mill at Separation Creek.
