Colac is the major regional centre for South West Victoria, Australia, situated 80kms from Geelong and 110kms from Warrnambool on the Princess highway. The town is situated on the southern shore of Lake Colac. The area was first settled by Hugh Murray in 1837 and proclaimed a town in 1948. Colac Botanic gardens is located on the shores of Lake Colac in 1868 and remodelled in 1910 by William Guilfoyle include a huge diversity of plants with many old and rare trees including a rose arbour. Regarded as the gateway to the Otway Ranges Colac is the entry point to some of Victorias most picturesque scenery. Easy access to the shipwreck coasts 12 apostles, the Ocean road, Lorne, Apollo Bay and many interesting attractions nearby makes Colac an attractive holiday or weekend destination.
